Metropol Hotels is committed to environmentally friendly and sustainable management, which is why we have joined the Green Key programme. The Green Key is an international quality label that is valid for one year and certifies that we conduct ourselves responsibly and comply with strict environmental standards. Hotels are regularly inspected by independent experts conducting audits to ensure that all requirements are met.
For us, however, the Green Key is not just a certificate or recognition. It is also a part of our daily business and a pledge to our guests and to the environment – to provide the best service while respecting nature and contributing to a greener future.
Reducing energy and water use
Our hotels use energy-saving LED lamps and sensors to help optimise electricity consumption. All rooms are equipped with efficient faucets, showers and toilets to keep water consumption at a reasonable level. In addition, we provide guests with the option to choose whether they want to have their towels changed every day, as reducing laundry volume saves both water and energy.
Waste reduction and circular economy
We believe in waste sorting and encourage our guests to dispose of their waste properly. We have reduced our reliance on single-use plastic products in favour of reusable and biodegradable alternatives. We aim to continuously improve waste management systems and promote circular economy.
Ecofriendly catering
We prioritise local and organic produce in our catering establishments to support sustainable farming and reduce our carbon footprint from transport. We are also working to reduce food waste and use ecofriendly packaging materials.
Greener transport
Metropol Hotels is located in the centre of Tallinn with excellent access to ecofriendly transport options. Tallinn itself is both small enough to walk to your next destination and big enough to ensure you always have something new to discover. Most of Tallinn’s public transport runs on either electricity or gas, and the plan is to phase out all diesel buses by 2025. For longer journeys, taking public transport is therefore the more responsible choice. If you want to use a ride-sharing service while still opting for a more responsible alternative, you can order an electric car using Estonia’s very own Bolt app.
Bicycles and electric scooters are available for rent close to the hotel to explore the city in a comfortable and eco-friendly way.
Daily cleaning only on request – in support of sustainable hospitality, we will only clean your room if you want us to. Please place a corresponding sign on the door no later than 12:00.
Economical use of towels and bed linen – towels will only be changed if you request it and bed linen every 7 days for longer stays.
Waste sorting – please sort your waste according to the instructions available at the hotel to help promote the circular economy.
Carry your own personal water bottle – there are several public drinking water taps in Tallinn, both in the city centre and in surrounding neighbourhoods, where you can quench your thirst and refill your water bottle. The locations of the water taps are marked on the interactive map. If you do not have your own bottle with you, you can get one at our hotel reception.
Use reusable bags on shopping trips – this way you reduce the number of plastic bags. If you do not already have an ecofriendly reusable shopping bag, you can get one at our hotel reception.
Ecofriendly transport – by using bicycles or public transport to arrive or leave the hotel, you help reduce your carbon footprint.
Green activities in the city
We recommend visiting the greenspaces near the hotel to discover Tallinn in a sustainable and active way. Tammsaare Park or the smaller and quieter Kanuti Park, right next to the hotel, are perfect for a leisurely stroll. If you are looking for a longer walk or a more active pastime, the seafront promenade by Tallinn’s Linnahall is a great place to take in the sea views. Toompea Park and the observation decks are perfect for anyone looking to enjoy both nature and historical atmosphere. For culture lovers, Kadriorg Park offers a wonderful experience, combining natural beauty and cultural events in one location. Tallinn offers plenty of other ways to explore the city in a green and informed way. For more information on various sustainable activities and ideas, see the website Visit Tallinn.
